Andy, You're right- I forgot that. I do indeed see that often. People don't know what the tags mean *even when they're using iD*.
And yes, we could go and try to fix them (and we do) but giving users a helping hand here would be tremendous. The other thing I'd love to see in iD (going off topic a bit) is validation. A simple validation issue I see often is: "addr:housenumber" = 555-867-5309 That makes sense, of course, but since there are only a few places in the country that use hypenated address numbers, maybe a little warning could come up.
