Yeah, the workflow with Github is really awesome. I like it too.

There's an alternative though, which we are starting at my place of work
now: Gitlab, which is like an open source clone of Github. You can actually
run it yourself: https://www.gitlab.com/

Maybe OSM should run it?
Maybe it would be even possible to connect it to the OSM authentication?
