For anyone considering travelling to Karlsruhe from London or nearby, I can recommend going via train which is what I did back in October. The LGV Est line from Paris to Strasbourg is now open, so it's quicker to go via Paris than the previous alternative of going via Brussels. It's quite charming to have an hour in Paris for lunch each way - Gare du Nord (Eurostar) and Gare de l'Est (TGV direct to Karlsruhe) are only a few minutes walk apart. https://www.trainline.eu/ was the best site I found for combining the Eurostar + SNCF / DB tickets for online purchase.
