I realize this is proper English, but the way its written, it appears as if the 
period is in the example string.  I think it would be clearer if it were 
outside the quotation mark.  (My father and I have actually gotten into 
disagreements over this.  He's very particular about these sorts of things: 
he's the reason I don't chew gum.)
