This higly depends on the EE container integration. If this shuts us down cleanly, then we most likely don't get such problems.
I've an installation of OWB-1.0.0 + tomcat6 + MyFaces-2.0.1 + OpenJPA-2.0.0 + CODI running with ~ 1 mio page hits/day (statics and dynamic resources not counted) and experience no mem leaks since I fixed javassist.
