moving 1.7.x to a maintenance branch

Hi folks!

I'd like to move the current trunk to a maintenance branch and target CDI-2.0 
in trunk.
We gonna mere in Reinhards work from the cdi-2.0 branch first, followed by the 
obvious tasks.

Any objections?
