Heikki,

Thanks, but that does not help. Mozilla on OS X has no "tabs drop down" nor can I see a place to do "Customize Sidebar". I tried looking for traces of it in my ~/Library/Mozilla directory, but no luck.

At some time ago, I enabled the Tinderbox status sidebar notifications

out how to do so. Has anyone got a clue?

Sidebar: Click the tabs drop down list, select Customize Sidebar..., and
then remove the Tinderbox entry.

Tinderstatus icon in status bar: Warning: haven't tested! Quit Mozilla.
Locate your profile directory (On WinXP most likely in C:\Documents and
Settings\markie\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\), and under chrome
delete dir tinderstatus. Open chrome.rdf in the chrome dir and delete
the RDF:Description element that specifies the Tinderstatus settings.
