As Jeffrey and others have pointed out, Pycon was a major success. The strong OSAF presence and Chandler demo got a lot of people excited about our upcoming releases.
As the OSAF representative to the Twisted community here are some of the results of our meetings during Pycon:
1. Twisted 2.0, which was released during Pycon, has been tested with .5 and runs with no Chandler code modifications.
2. Glyph and JP from Twisted and Divmod where impressed with our Chandler demo
and the work we put in to integrating Twisted in to the core framework. Twisted and
Divmod had previously planned to work on Client software but now are convinced that
Chandler is going to fill that space and wanting to form a closer relationship. Glyph mention
bi-weekly talks. They are hoping that Twisted and OSAF can work together to
build a robust Client (OSAF) and Server (Twisted) framework.
3. Glyph expressed the hope that OSAF would look to leverage Twisted more internally. In particular
the subject of WEBDAV came up. Divmod is going to start work soon on a WEBDAV server and
would like to see OSAF work on improving Twisted's WEBDAV client.
4. Brian Warner (Twisted) has agreed to come to the OSAF offices and give a tutorial on using
the Twisted Framework. This talk is intended for OSAF programmers who have not yet developed with
Twisted and want to learn how to leverage it in Chandler.
Of most benefit was getting to meet all the developers who are the major contributers to Twisted. I was
surprised to learn the average age of the Twisted team is 20 - 23. They are young and energetic.
The conference also served to draw attention to useful software developed in Twisted including:
1. Yarn (http://www.fettig.net/projects/yarn/) 2. Hep (http://www.fettig.net/projects/hep/) 3. Flumotion (http://www.flumotion.net/)
