I just wanted to comment on this part of the message. I'm fine with happened with set of changes, so don't take this as a complaint or anything like that.

At Apache we have a rule about this kind of discussion: "Discuss all you want in irc, phone, whatever, but make the actual decisions in e-mail so that people who weren't present in the real-time discussion have a chance to participate". I'm not advocating that we adopt such a rule, but I think that this situation illustrates the challenges of keeping interested parties aware of what's going on. As our community grows to include more people in more time zones, this is going to be more of an issue for us.
