NOTE: its been brought to my attention that the table below will not display correctly if you are viewing this with Thunderbird's "simple html" view.. go to View -> Message Body As... to see this correctly.

So I've noticed that every time I make the tiniest change to a bug, even just adding myself to the CC, everyone on the bug gets bugmail. I've got to imagine that this means bugmail is:
a) annoying
and thus
b) ignored

Wouldn't it be nice if you could get bugmail only for useful stuff? As a long time user of bugzilla, I've worked out  my own personal "perfect prefs" that I just carry with me from one bugzilla account to another. It cuts bugmail down by at least half..  and amazingly, I'm able to actually read all my bugmail instead of just mass-deleting it.

I call it the "tell me when my bugs change in some important way, but pay less attention to other people's bugs" setting.

Just go to the "prefs" link at the bottom, and click on "Email settings" - then just make that big matrix look like this:

When my relationship to this bug is: I want to receive mail when:
Reporter Assignee CC Voter
I'm added to or removed from this capacity
New Comments are added
New Attachments are added
Priority, status, severity, and/or milestone changes
The bug is resolved or verified
Keywords field changes
CC field changes
Any field not mentioned above changes
The bug is in the unconfirmed state
