While true, Google [getaddrinfo ("os x" OR darwin)] does return lots
of indications of various getaddrinfo problems on OS X over its
history. It seems fair to initially blame OS X and not strictly local
issues.

I assume there are no version differences between Ahukini's OS and
others. I don't see many descriptions of workarounds, except some
people telling configure to disable getaddrinfo, but python may not
support letting autoconf find workarounds. Someone else added some
additional params to the getaddrinfo call, but that'd diverge the
Python build more. There a few related getaddrinfo problems, it
appears; many google references discuss OS X handling of delays from
ipv6 lookups.

Has disabling of ipv6 to python's configure been tried and didn't
work?
