Following up, I've developed a rough document at: http://wiki.osafoundation.org/bin/view/Chandler/LinuxDistroIntegration The contents are of course widely debatable. The intent is only to have a place to chat, and specifically to flesh out "next steps" I and others may work on. No bugzilla entries have been filed since the actual tactics are so debatable. The distro integration work is relatively long-term, and much can be done by the community outside of direct OSAF support or discussion. I'm going to have light conversations with the Gentoo desktop-apps team to see what their criteria are for acceptance and how they respond to having OSAF-specific versions of libraries. Starting with an ebuild will hopefully be more tangible than an abstract conversation about packaging. My impression is that Gentoo is a good place to start discussions with distros since there's well-established procedures for experimental packages, a history of including early software, they need only include a 3.5Kb "source" file into their tree instead of an additional 30-odd Mb binary into their mirrors, and the general culture is one of early adoption and contribute-back developers. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] "Truth is a great flirt." -- Franz Liszt _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Open Source Applications Foundation "Dev" mailing list http://lists.osafoundation.org/mailman/listinfo/dev
