One thing that bugs me is the current collection icon in the sidebar. I describe what I think is annoying in the current implementation in the here above mentioned document. In a nutshell though,IMHO, the current hover/checked icons for the My Calendar and Trash (most notably) is confusing. We should either have different icons for those or question the superposition of icons (which relates to identity) and checkness (which relates to status).
I filed a bug on this same issue just as your message came in. See bug 4410, https://bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4410, "Wrong sidebar icon on mouseover for Trash and Calendar collections". Right now, these collections use the same icon on mouseover as the Tasks, and the effect just doesn't feel right. The immediate cause is that there is no "SidebarIconTrashMouseOver" icon, as I mentioned in the bug report, but I think that the real issue is the current specification of the getButtonImage method of SSSidebarIconButton class. Using the Trash icon as an example, if SidebarIconTrashMouseOver doesn't exist, the method next tries to load SidebarIconMouseOver, and if that is not found, then it uses the regular Trash icon, SidebarIconTrash. Wouldn't it make more sense to first try to use the regular icon if no specialized ones are provided, rather than expect that a specialized icon will work for all collections in a view?
