Unable to add text with drawLine() version 1.3 pdf files (Acrobat 4.x)

If I open a scanned pdf file made under pdf 1.3 version I unable to add some
text to that. If I convert the same file to 1.4 version it works fine. Other
pdf files have 1.4 or higher version also work fine.
