Hi, I didn't have the time to analyze further as I have to catch a plane. But simply loading and saving these will leave them in a state that Adobe Reader and Mac Preview can't open the newly saved docs. I did try both PDDocument.load and .loadNonSeq. Doing the same test with 1.7.1 produces viewable docs.
Unfortunately I can't look into that before thursday - that's why I wanted to make you aware of it.
