Plimmer Keen commented on PDFBOX-1452:
---------------------------------------
Hi Maruan! Hi Andreas!
Thanks for your responses.
I wasn't frustrated..just a little bit disappointed as I begun implementing a
project having in mind
that I can use pdfbox to print pdfs (sounds logical ;-) ..and eventually had to
drop pdf silent printing idea cause of this issue.
But of course I understand the nature of this project (volunteering, team
effort as you mentioned etc). I even tried to figure out by myself where the
error could reside ..by examining the source code (after all it's only about 2
or 3 characters - I thought) ...though, eventually, I think the project is a
little bit advanced for me...or I may be I just need more documentation to
figure it out ;-)
Anyway keep up the good work!

> Greek Pdfs print out wrong characters
> --------------------------------------
>
> Key: PDFBOX-1452
> URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/PDFBOX-1452
> Project: PDFBox
> Issue Type: Bug
> Affects Versions: 1.7.1, 1.8.0
> Environment: windows 7, Windows Vista
> Reporter: Plimmer Keen
> Labels: bug, greek, pi, print, silent
> Attachments: test4.pdf

> This issue resembles the PDFBOX-770 bug which was fixed in version 1.5.0,
> however in case of PDFBOX-770 problem occurred while extracting the text, in
> my case
> I have the same problem but while printing (silent print).
> E.G. in Greek PDF
> a) Greek letter π is printed as pi. "προσώπων" would become "piροσώpiων" on
> paper.
> b) The Greek letter μ is printed as µ ... which is slightly different on
> paper as the proper μ.
> c) I think there is also an issue with Ω...but I will confirm this later.
> As an example PDF ..the same pdf as in case of PDFBOX-770 can be used.
> Unfortunately I cannot post the results as results are on paper...
> So, I cannot print any Greek PDF, as it comes out unreadable...
> Please address the issue, a fix might be somehow similar to 770's
> fix..though I couldn't find any reference what was the problem then in a
> first place...
> Thanks in advance...
