The output looks much better using PDFBox 1.8.0 or 1.8.1.
I've found an issue with the shading type 2 dictionary. It may contain an array
of functions instead of just one. I fixed that in revision 1469972.
There is still an issue, the "4" in the upper right corner isn't rendered
correct. I guess it's a shading issue. I'll investigate further
