1) The "trash" appears because the pdf is encrypted. You should try the
PDFDebugger to examine pdfs, it's easy to use and will automatically decrypt
encrypted docs
2) After overhauling the font rendering stuff I assume that some of the
encoding code has to be refactored as well. The error can be most likely
ignored.
