Please use the latest version at https://pdfbox.apache.org/downloads.html , als
try loadNonSeq() instead of load(). If it still happens, try the 2.0 version.
If it still happens, attach the file, if it isn't confidential. If you produced
the file yourself, try to produce a non confidential version.
