Now at least we have an API without surprise. I'm not persuaded by the
workaround by mkl, for the very reasons he mentions, and because it doesn't
take care that the input when loading is the same input when saving
incrementally. But I'm leaving this issue open until somebody else comes up
with a better idea or decides to set it to resolved.
