Shall we close this issue and open a follow-up issue for the remaining
transparency group problems? We've at least applied some useful parts of this
patch and we can make use of my SoftMask.java in the future if needed.
[~chengas123], the backstory is that the transparency group code was
contributed to PDFBox by an external user, so we're in a position where clearly
the existing code does not work but it's not obvious why. Rewriting is the only
sensible solution but I've run out of time to spend on this issue.
