[~jahewson], is PDFBox (FontBox) supports rendering with hinting?
DFKai-SB is indeed a bad font. However, most pdf documents in Taiwan has this
font embedded, especially for those from the government (
https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=cr#q=site:gov.tw+filetype:pdf+-site:npl.ly.gov.tw
). We have no choice but overcome evil with good.
