A US letter page is 612pt x 792pt, which at 300dpi is 612/72*300px x
792/72*300px = 2550px x 3038px. ImageType.RGB uses 8-bit color components
packed into integer pixels, which is 32-bits per pixel, so that's 32/8 = 4
bytes per pixel. So each BufferedImage is 2550 x 3038 x 4 bytes = 30987600
bytes = 30.98 MB.
So with a 1024 MB heap, you can store no more than 1024 / 30.98 = 33 page
images before running out of memory, and that's assuming your app and PDFBox
isn't using memory for anything else.
So you really can't go storing all these BufferedImage objects. That's your
problem here.
