Maruan Sahyoun commented on PDFBOX-3550:

The issues with AWT's font renderer shouldn't have any bearing on shaping.
{quote}

well - that's what we did in the past and we had issues. I'm not saying that it
will be the case but we need to be prepared for it. So I think the awt stuff
shouldn't be part of the public API.

 ... if you want to know how to do text layout I can tell you ...
{quote}

it's not about wanting to know how to do text layout. It's because of others
building something on top of PDFBox because we currently don't do that. Now if
we do better/complex string drawing and maybe a higher level text layout we
reduce the burden on their side. So teaming might speed things up - e.g. by
providing timely feedback and tests.

> the problem is, in some languages letters need to be joined together for
> example, consider this word
> {color:red}
> سلام
> {color}
> but after creating a pdf it contorts to
> {color:red}
> س‌ل‌ام
> {color}
> with extra semi-spaces. I think this is a bug in pdfbox and definetly is not
> related to font.
