I tested with a few tools... most can display the file correctly, some can't.
Those who can do so probably because they use a font library for all type 1
fonts, not just those allowed for PDF - here's an excerpt from the Adobe Type 1
Font Format:

must conform to a much stricter syntax than do
“normal” PostScript language programs.
