Wolfgang Hamann commented on PDFBOX-3740:
-----------------------------------------
About strategy one: do you say that pdf/A means the standard 14 should not be
utilized at all? (which would sort of make sense - how could I know whether the
fonts are the original ones or have been updated with an Euro sign) However,
citations from the standard seem to allow them.
Well, all three versions render correctly with ghostscript, and test1 also
renders correctly with Acrobat reader. So these tools must use a different way
of getting at the glyphs.

> before I attempted to become PDF/A compatible, I was happy with just an
> Encoding entry for the standard 14...
> I have made a few tests:
> 1 - full embedding of font
> 2 - just Encoding
> 3 - complete font descriptor
> rendering results and preflight warnings
> gs acro xpdf preflight
> ok ok bad many
> ok ok ok 2
> ok bad ok 1
