Our website is ok, only those who are "mislead" by any (cached) wrong link
somewhere else in the internet or those who are entering the URL manually with
.html instead of .cgi are running into the described issue.
However, I've added another rewrite rule (download.html -> download.cgi) so
that all "mislead" people are pointed to the right path automagically :-)
