Thank you again. This time I'm not applying the change to 2.0.* because 1. it's
more work 😂 and 2. some of the changes may be breaking, e.g. "protected final".
But it's still OK as an improvement for 3.0. If anybody needs to write to these
fields, we'll remove the final and add a setter to keep it clean.
