There is also PDFSam Split and Merge, which is based on a PDFBox fork.

You could of course update to 3.0 but I wouldn't use the RC1, it contains two 
nasty bugs (that have been fixed in the snapshot).

There are still some regressions that we haven't investigated yet (after 
testing over 250000 PDF files).
