Yes this could work but I'd like another opinion, i.e. the one of [~lehmi].
From my understanding {{streamCache}} will never be null because
{{getStreamCache()}} would never return null. So this means that
{{createBuffer}} will always be called instead of the old call. I'm wondering
if this would lead to performance / memory problems.
