I expanded the tests in {{checkWithNumberTree()}} to solve the attached SO
question. (Which was somewhat confusing for me, but after a week now I
understand that the input file has some unknown problem that leads to an Adobe
bug) While my efforts were unsuccessful, the new code expands the checks used
for split and merge, so they might help in the future.
