[~tilman] could you take a look at the code and maybe run a test using your
suite to ensure it doesn't break existing renditions. The tests in pdfbox pass.
If you're fine I'll apply to the other versions.
Note it still takes several seconds on my system to do the computation because
of the very long string we have to compute the individual widths for. But this
is very special to the case at hand. The optimization is still worth for other
much simpler cases.
