The first 2 lines when you ran perl Makefile.PL must have been : "!!! You are running Perl version 5.6.0 We strongly suggest you upgrade to at least 5.6.1"
Even though the documentation says that it "should" work with Perl 5.6.0, this is an example of why 5.6.1 is recommended strongly. This particular problem might be fixed in a not so distant future, but preserving backward compatibility all the way to perl 5.6.0 is quite troublesome.
