Actually Randy Kobes sort of hit the nail on the head sometime ago, I guess I neglected to CC the list on my reply to him. IIRC The problem is that Makefile.PL uses MP_AP_PREFIX and parses MP_AP_PREFIX/conf/httpd.conf for appropriate modules to load. I, however, built apache with:
--prefix=/opt/apache --sysconfdir=/home/net/etc/
cool. in any case now even if you miss that, it shouldn't be a problem any longer.
