That's actually fortunate, [~bdifn], as this is similar to a test we'd do for
backward compatibility. In these tests, we use a new server jar, but with an
old client jar, as we need to ensure that Phoenix continues to work in this
configuration (to allow for the server jar to be updated independently from the
client jar).
Please give this new patch (PHOENIX-1570_v2.patch) a try, [~bdifn] and let us
know how it goes. If you could create a unit test for this (based on your code
in the JIRA description), that would be super helpful. Take a look at
org.apache.phoenix.end2end.CoalesceFunctionIT as a guide.
