I am working on PHOENIX-3028. We noticed in our internal testing that there is still some code path in our stats collection that is executing synchronously on the compaction thread (which could cause compaction to fail in case of network partition/hbase misconfiguration etc). Also another blocker is PHOENIX-3030.
