We have some code that in the compatibility modules that is identical for each
one.
Some of that is preparation for the upcoming HBase 3 support (like
ByteStringer) , but some of that is simply leftover code that was needed for
earlier HBase 2.x version.
Identify which is which, and remove the superfluous compatibility code.
