Aha, ok, I sorry I didn't catch the build.txt. FWIW, I did look for
info in the VOTE mail when I noticed that the source dist was relying
on a non-released version of HBase, so it might be a good plan to
mention it there. On the other hand, I shouldn't have overlooked the
build.txt file.

On a related note, it would be good to add a similar notice about
needing a hadoop-2 build of HBase 0.94 for building the 3.0.0 release
with the hadoop-2 profile (unless there is an explanation already
present somewhere and I missed it).

Ok, makes sense. I don't have a real opinion either way on this. On
the one hand it would be a shame to delay things for so long until the
HBase 0.98.1 release, but on the other hand it would probably be an
even bigger shame if somehow a breaking change went into HBase 0.98.1
(if the first RC doesn't go through) that would break Phoenix 4.0.0 (I
assume that's very unlikely though).
