[~jrottinghuis], that means we assume that pig alway runs on hadoop (which is 
sort of true). Also, removing pig.temp.dir will not be backwards compatible.
Unfortunately, Configuration#substituteVars is not declared public (and 
static), so copying would be the only option left to enable this. Thoughts?
