DATETIMECONVERT is a popular UDF used by several clients in Uber. While we have recommended to our users work around the problem to use EPOCH time as the output format, SDF is still useful because some of our users are issuing adhoc/interactive queries -- to them SDF conversion of Pinot is really convenient. That is why I believe Pinot internal query optimization is beneficial.
