However, I think this belongs in the other ticket: https://github.com/apache/incubator-pinot/issues/3420 I feel for this particular ticket, we need to rethink the way replication works. Ting and I are refining our initial proposal and will be putting up something to review soon. Gist of our proposal: 1) Avoid a complex segment leader election phase. 2) Add ability to register multiple segment locations within the segment store. 3) Use any one of these locations to download segments as and when needed.
