One additional argument in favor of the new approach: a downside I ran into 
with the package-based styling approach is its static nature. It applies to all 
components within an application. So, we can't even demonstrate it in the 
tutorial, since it would affect the styles of every component in every example. 
 :-)  With the new suggestion, this won't be a problem.
