The bottom line is that there is no way to generically validate a component's 
data. It is very application-specific so a single flag attached to a form field 
isn't going to be much use.

My suggestion would be to close this issue and do some prototyping if you are 
interested in pursuing this. If you come up with a design you like, you can 
submit a new issue to capture it.
