It took me a while to figure out I could simply override the skin's enabledChanged method to add or remove the decorator, but now I'm good. A pale gray ShadeDecorator (I picked rgb=220, opacity=.5) does a passable job of faking the disabled look. It's not nearly as pretty as the component painting the disabled look itself, mostly because it also shades the background, but I think it will do for now. Looking forward to getting a better fix later.
