This feature is called "highlight". It appears when you mouse over an element
in a list, table, tree, etc. and shows you what item will be selected if you
click on it.
When there is already (at least) one element selected, when I press any key,
the highlight (of the element under the mouse) is removed, and this generates a
little visual noise to the user.
