Roger Whitcomb commented on PIVOT-864:
--------------------------------------

I have now the beginnings of a (Commons) VFS Browser (and accompanying Browser
Sheet) that is basically working (tested so far only with local file browsing).
I plan to check this into "trunk" as a version 2.1 feature. I have
implemented a simple test program as well. The Pivot .jar files also work
as-is (i.e., without the additional Commons dependencies) if you don't
instantiate the VFSBrowser classes.

There will be further refinements to this. There is a Swing VFS Browser that
I'm using as a guideline for features here:

> Our application requires the ability to be able to browse (for instance) a
> Linux machine from the Windows desktop. For this I would like to add
> (somehow) a pluggable file system architecture so that I could (for instance)
> implement an FTP protocol underneath the FileBrowser so that I can browse
> through directories and files on something other than the local machine. We
> would also need to be able to type in a host name or TCP/IP address to start
> browsing the remote machine.
