The file was *written* by a version of POI with bug 45778 (i.e. anything before 3.5-beta4). Please comment if your offending file was created by another app or by another POI version. When Excel reads an ObjRecord with all the extra padding, it silently truncates the record to its correct size. POI has been modified to to the same.
