I tried the attached file

0a07f060be3034557542057d5466bcac) and it works OK. This is the java
code I ran:
new HSSFWorkbook(new FileInputStream("Example.xls"))
This is probably not the spreadsheet that caused your bug.
I also saw that FormatRecord.java hasn't changed in a long time (so
this is not recently fixed issue).
