I think for a testcase it doesn't matter. But the import optimization is something I stumble upon every now and then. Eventually someone turned off the automatic optimization at save in the eclipse settings.
How about limiting the single class expansion to X (3?) of the same package? i.e. if there are more than X classes / static imports than use the wildcard ...
