The scroll() method unconditionally writes the global variable 'doctype'.
The index() method creates the unused 'js' local variable from the global
'query' variable
Many methods define the local variable 'out' twice, or define it
unnecessarily.
The checkReturn() method seems to have an unreachable 'return nil'
statement.
